The first Madame Tussauds opened in London in 1835, when Marie Tussaud created her first wax figure of Voltaire - but the Istanbul branch dates back to 2012, when it was established as part of the larger Star City complex. The core values at Madame Tussauds remain unchanged over time however; each figure is crafted with utmost precision and detail by skilled artisans working with specially formulated wax that has been developed over time to ensure a natural yet durable finish. Over 200 characters are on display at the Istanbul location alone – including Turkish basketball legend Hidayet Turkoglu, Hollywood actor Will Smith and even video game character Lara Croft.
Visitors can also take part in interactive experiences such as ‘Behind the Scenes’ exhibit where they can learn how the sculptures are made; or take selfies with their favourite celebs! Visitors can even become star makers themselves by creating their own wax models through the ‘Create your own Celebrity’ interactive workshop.
